Open Houses

2021 is looking like it is going to be a different year for the Saskatoon housing market. 2020 was different and there were not a lot of open houses where people were allowed to attend in person.

For people wanting a new house and for first-time homebuyers – the open houses are a welcome-backed event.

Saskatchewan Realtor Association chief executive officer Chris Guérette said open houses add another dynamic for people who are house shopping.

“It offers different benefits,” said Guérette. “An open house is better for people to understand a neighborhood. If you are getting serious, you probably are visiting an open house. It’s not the end all be all, but it’s another option.”

Guérette said open houses are part of the process now since people will be spending time online doing their research as always.

It’s up to the homeowner to follow whatever health guidelines they feel need to be followed, including mask-wearing.

Guérette said home sales are above average across the province compared to last year.

What 2022 Could Look Like:

  • If the Covid numbers continue to go up – we might have to keep to virtual events
  • Should the numbers go down – we assume we will be in houses with buyers again
  • If we cannot be in houses we promise we will do the best videos / live streaming / virtual tours
